Feature length documentary / 1 hour 30 minutes.
Nayungma knows her dad was a Gurkha, which led her to grow up in the UK, but understanding what that actually meant is something else...
As Nayungma goes on a journey of self-discovery, she uncovers the truth of Gurkha. She realises they are presented as elite, disciplined, fearless soldiers who vow their lives to the Queen/now King. But in reality, they are human, scared, and encounter many struggles but are complacent. Racism, pension inequalities, and children without fathers are just some of the issues that need highlighting.
We aim to document Nepali history that hasn’t been recorded by the West. We aim to tell a true story, giving a platform for Nepali people to speak. Allowing them the chance to discuss inequalities, racism and governmental struggles will help us write history for what it was. We need to document this history now. This is a documentary for the Nepali generation to understand their roots. Know how they got here, what they had to face, told by and for Nepali people.
We currently have been funding this project out of our own pocket. We hope to connect with producers and fundraising bodies that can help create this film. We require funds to travel from Sheffield to London to interview veterans, pay crew to improve the quality, accommodation and even flights to Nepal.
